The third part of the series from Star Decals covers, in 1:72 scale, a varied mixture of the machines of the SS-Pz.Reg. 5 regiment. Besides the PzKpfw IV Ausf G and Ausf J tanks you will find here markings for the SdKfz 11 tractor, the SdKfz 251 armored personnel carrier and the captured T-34-85 tank. The set rounds out a finished model and suits anyone building a whole column at once as well.
The PzKpfw IV Ausf G carried a long 75mm gun; the Ausf J version simplified production, lost the auxiliary unit for traversing the turret and gained a greater supply of fuel. The SdKfz 11 served as an artillery tractor; the SdKfz 251 carried infantry as well as equipment. The captured T-34-85 in German hands was given conspicuous insignia, so that its own units would not mistake it at a distance for the enemy. Each of those machines moreover had differently sized areas for insignia, which is good to know in advance during a build.
Each of those machines has a different surface: the smooth hull sides of the tank, the pressed sheet metal of the tractor, the sloped armor of the carrier. Seat a design step by step, therefore, and with folded areas help yourself along with warm water, which softens the film. With captured vehicles it pays to place the insignia in clearly visible spots, as matches their original purpose.
