Armory 1:72 wheels for the XB-70 Valkyrie with weighted tires. A resin accessory for a kit of the experimental bomber, not an airplane model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin wheel set in 1:72 scale for a model of the North American XB-70 Valkyrie experimental bomber from Armory. It is not an airplane model but an accessory that replaces the wheels from the plastic kit. The tires are cast as weighted, with a compressed sidewall and a flat area that sits down on the ground. On the XB-70 that matters especially: the aircraft had a high takeoff weight and main landing gear with multi-wheel bogies, so the tires were distinctly loaded on the ground. Check the scope of the set on the box.
The North American XB-70 Valkyrie was an American experimental strategic bomber designed for long flight at three times the speed of sound at high altitude. Six engines powered it and its design made use of what is known as compression lift, in which the shock wave under the fuselage helped carry the aircraft; the folding wingtips fine-tuned that effect. Only two prototypes were built and the first flew in 1964. The second machine was lost in 1966 after a midair collision during a formation flight, while the first survives in a museum. The program ended because the development of anti-aircraft missiles put a high-speed bomber at a disadvantage.
It is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The basic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
