37th SS Volunteer Cavalry Division Lutzow Plaque 25mm is a plaque 25 mm in size with the emblem of the formation from the name. It belongs among the diorama accessories of Dynamo-Models and is used to mark the base of a scene.

This is a diorama accessory, not a kit. The plaque 25 mm in size carries the badge of the formation given in the name and is fitted to a base, to the plinth of a display case or to the frame of a glazed cabinet. Its point is practical: once a diorama is finished and set aside, after a time its builder stops remembering which unit he portrayed. A permanent designation settles that problem once and for all and takes up only a few millimeters on the edge of the base.
The 37th SS-Freiwilligen-Kavallerie-Division was raised in February 1945 from the remnants of two older Waffen-SS cavalry divisions which had broken up in the fighting at Budapest. Despite the cavalry designation it was in practice a battle group, which withdrew through Hungary and Austria and laid down its arms before American units in May 1945. A scene with this plaque is therefore not meant to portray a cavalry unit in the traditional sense but a withdrawing formation of the closing weeks of the war.
The plaque is touched by hand every time the base is handled, so it pays off to fix the surface at the end with a varnish that will take rubbing. Before you settle the accessory, try several positions dry and choose the one where the badge does not merge with the texture of the ground. Leave the transition between the plaque and the base clean, with no paint running over. Patina suits a scene rather than the designation itself, which is meant to stay legible even after years in a display case.
