7.5cm KwK42 L/70

RB model 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 – turned gun barrel

This is a replacement turned metal bore for a model of the German 7.5 cm KwK 42 tank gun with a barrel length of L/70. The part replaces the plastic gun barrel from the kit and brings a perfectly straight, concentric profile with a faithfully rendered muzzle. Small accessories are usually included as well, depending on the version of the particular set.

The real subject

The 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 gun was the main armament of the Panther medium tank. Thanks to its long gun barrel and high muzzle velocity it was among the most effective anti-tank guns of the Second World War. The same type of weapon was also carried by some tank destroyers built on the chassis of the Panzer IV.

Fitting and use

The gun barrel is intended for more experienced modelers. It is advisable to wash the grease off the part, level any casting remnant and fit it with cyanoacrylate glue. Metal holds its shape better than plastic, it takes sanding and polishing and it looks faithful once painted and weathered.

Who the set is for

• Modelers building the Panther and related vehicles who want a realistic gun barrel
• Builders who are bothered by the mold seam and the misalignment of plastic barrels
• Collectors of details who want a more faithful rendition of gun armament

This is an accessory to a model, not a stand-alone kit. It is supplied unpainted, without the basic kit, paints and glue.
