7K Russian Tan

The color

A yellow-brown to sand-toned paint for Russian vehicles, listed under the designation 7K. A tone of this kind is muted and is not meant to stay the last coat: only lightening the large areas, darkening the seams and dust settling in the corners give it depth. Paint in the bottle always looks different from a coat sprayed on a model, so spray a test patch on a plastic offcut first and judge it in daylight.

Preparation and spraying

Wash and degrease the surface of the model before painting; on a greasy base the paint will not hold. Stir the contents of the bottle properly, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Spray with an airbrush in several thin coats and let the surface flash off between passes. A heavy coat floods the engraving and the fine surface relief, while thin coats preserve them. Choose the thinner and the cleaner from the same range and flush the airbrush right after work, as dried pigment is far harder to remove.

What the shade leads on to

Let the base coat anchor properly before you start on further work. Under decals apply an intermediate gloss clear coat so that no haze appears beneath the carrier film, and even out the level of sheen only with the final clear coat. Do the bringing out of details, the oil stains and the dust only on anchored paint, otherwise the base dissolves along with them. When masking the borders between fields, pull the tape off slowly and at an angle.

Terms of supply

The package holds the paint. Thinner, an airbrush, brushes and other aids are not included, unless stated otherwise. Work in a well-ventilated room, protect your airways and store the bottle closed and out of the reach of children.
