A model of the Italian desert reconnaissance vehicle FIAT-SPA AS-42 Sahariana with the 20 mm Breda 20/65 automatic cannon, in 1:100 scale from the brand Zebranomodel. The 1:100 line of this brand is built for wargames and for small dioramas. It is a kit, not a finished painted model.
The AS-42 Sahariana was the Italian counterpart of the British desert patrols: a light vehicle derived from the AS-37 military truck chassis, with no armor but an enormous range. The crew hung fuel and water cans on the sides and on the rear, along with spare wheels, and that let them run patrols deep into the desert. The armament varied with the task; this model carries the 20 mm Breda 20/65 automatic cannon, the same weapon the Italians also used against aircraft.
First wash the small parts in warm soapy water and let them dry. Super glue holds on resin as well as on plastic, so it is the safest choice on models this small; cement for plastic works only on injection-molded plastic. Apply the base coat thin, otherwise the engraving disappears at this scale. The result in 1:100 rests on contrast: once the base color has dried, lighten the horizontal surfaces and put a dark wash into the gaps and shadows.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
