Injection-molded plastic model of the Russian sailing ship Mercury of the 19th century, in 1:100 scale from the Zvezda brand. It is a sizeable model of a brig with rich rigging and sails, which once completed makes a striking piece for a display case. The box contains a great many parts and shaped sails; the assembled ship reaches a considerable length.
Mercury was a Russian brig armed with guns, launched in the first half of the 19th century and deployed in the Black Sea. She became famous in 1829 during the Russo-Turkish War, when she met two far stronger Turkish ships in an unequal fight. Thanks to skillful maneuvering and the ability to move under oars as well as under sail she came through the action and became a legend of the Russian Navy.
First finish and paint the hull and the decks, and only then fit the masts, the yards and the fine parts. Glue the plastic parts with a thin modeling cement for plastic. The rigging and the sails call for patience and careful tensioning. Apply a primer before painting; the wood of the hull and the decks can be shaded with glazes and dry-brushing. Because of its scope the model is better suited to more experienced builders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
