About product

Decals in 1:24 for the de Havilland Mosquito - national markings 1942 to 1945 (Type B upper wing roundels)

A sheet of national markings on their own for the Mosquito in the period 1942 to 1945, with Type B upper wing roundels. It is not a sheet with the markings of a particular machine and these are not technical stencils, so do not look on it for code letters, serial numbers or service lettering. The manufacturer divides the markings into separate sheets so that a modeler can put together only what is needed: the markings of particular aircraft are in the ADD24005 range, and the technical stencils for the Mosquito are on the separate sheet ADD24S105. The type of the upper roundels is at the same time the main distinguishing mark by which the sheet is chosen.

The real subject

The Type B roundel is made up only of a red center and a blue field, without the white and yellow rings. The RAF used it on the upper surfaces of the wing, where the marking was to be as little noticeable from the air as possible, while on the fuselage the machines carried a marking with white and yellow. The de Havilland Mosquito was a twin-engine aircraft of largely wooden construction, used in many roles from night fighting and reconnaissance to precision bombing, so the particular form of the markings differed from squadron to squadron and from role to role.

Application tips

A decal is applied with water: it is slid into place and settled with a decal fixer. On riveted and curved surfaces a decal softener is added, after which the film is pliable and must not be touched. A smooth gloss coat belongs under a decal, otherwise the edge of the film will go white; once it is dry, varnish the whole thing over.

Who the sheet is for

  • builds of Mosquitoes from the years 1942 to 1945 with Type B upper roundels
  • modelers who have the markings of a machine in the Basic Set version
  • those who need to replace roundels from another source
  • 1:24 scale, where faults in the concentricity of the markings are clearly visible

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
