A set of masking stencils for a model of the AH-64D/E Apache attack helicopter in 1:35 scale. The stencils are stuck onto the model before the paint is sprayed.
Responsibility details are not available.
The AH-64 Apache is an American attack helicopter with a two-man crew seated in tandem one behind the other. Under the nose it carries a trainable cannon, and on the sides of the fuselage it has stub wings with racks for armament. The D and E versions are upgraded configurations that keep the machine in service to this day. The cockpit is glazed with flat parts, so masking is done over flat surfaces. There are a lot of panels, though, and tape cut by hand will not bed down under them as precisely as a precisely cut stencil.
Masking stencils are shapes cut out in advance that are stuck onto the model, protect the surface under them and are removed after spraying. They save cutting tape by eye and above all give a straight edge in the place where it is most visible on a finished model. The exact list of stencils and the kit the set is cut for are given by the manufacturer's instructions.
Stick the stencils onto a clean, degreased surface before spraying and press the edges down properly, so that paint does not run under them. Apply the paint in thin coats and rather at right angles to the edge of the stencil than at a slant under it. Remove the stencil as soon as the paint is dry to the touch but before it has cured completely, as a heavy dried coat tears when being taken off. Pointed tweezers or the tip of a knife, with which you lift the edge, will help.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
