About product

Turned metal barrel for the 150 mm sIG 33 infantry gun in 1:35 scale

A turned metal gun barrel from the Polish manufacturer Aber in 1:35 scale, which replaces the plastic barrel of the German sIG 33 heavy infantry gun of 150 mm caliber. This is not a kit but a detail accessory for modelers who want an accurate barrel cylinder with no mold seam and with a faithfully drilled-out muzzle.

The real subject

The sIG 33 heavy infantry gun, the schweres Infanteriegeschütz 33, of 150 mm caliber was the standard German weapon for direct fire support of infantry. What is characteristic is its very short barrel for such a large caliber, intended for heavy high-explosive shells at short and medium ranges. Besides the towed version, the sIG 33 was also mounted on self-propelled chassis, for example on the hull of the Pz.Kpfw. I light tank or on the Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) chassis in the Grille series of self-propelled guns. It is precisely the large caliber and the short barrel that make this gun such a rewarding modeling subject.

Installation and painting tips

The turned metal barrel is fitted in place of the plastic part from the kit. Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the mantlet as possible, level the mating face and fit the metal part dry first so that you can check the axis and any misalignment. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or with two-part epoxy; ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Degrease the metal carefully before painting and take it over with a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint flakes off. The muzzle is drilled out, so there is no drilling or cleaning up of a mold seam to do.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the towed sIG 33 infantry gun in 1:35 scale
  • Builders of self-propelled guns with this weapon, for example on the Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) chassis
  • Those who want to get rid of the mold seam and the imperfect muzzle of a plastic barrel
  • Collectors of German artillery of the Second World War

This is an add-on detail set for modelers, not a kit. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. This is a separate turned metal barrel, that is, a detail accessory. The kit itself is not included in the package and has to be bought separately.

Cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or two-part epoxy. Ordinary cement for plastic will not join metal, because it cannot soften it.

We recommend it. On bare metal the paint holds poorly and rubs off when the model is handled. A thin coat of primer intended for metal, applied to a degreased surface, is enough.
