Aber 1:35 grille covers for the Soviet T-34 tank is a photo-etched set of protective covers for the engine compartment grilles for a model of the T-34 in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a model of a tank but a detail accessory for a kit. The photo-etched set holds the protective covers of the grilles over the cooling openings of the engine compartment of the T-34 in 1:35 scale. On the real tank these were mesh covers with a pronounced structure, which protected the radiators from shell splinters while still letting air through. The plastic parts of kits simplify that structure and are too thick, whereas photo-etched metal has the right thickness and pattern. The manufacturer is the Polish firm Aber, a specialist in photo-etched and turned metal accessories for military models.
The T-34 was a Soviet medium tank of the Second World War, famous for combining sloped armor, a diesel engine and wide tracks that coped with mud and snow alike. Its rear deck is its characteristic recognition feature: large cooling openings on either side of the engine hatch, covered with grilles, plus the exhausts at the tail. It is this area that is most visible from above, so any simplification of the plastic there immediately draws the eye.
Sand or cut away the original plastic grilles and level the openings so that the photo-etched part seats without gaps. Separate the parts with a scalpel and make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue in drops along the edges, so that glue does not get into the pattern. Degrease the photo-etched parts before painting and spray them with a primer for metal. The green finish of Soviet vehicles is well complemented by a dark wash in the grilles and dust pigments, which emphasize the depth of the openings.
The accessory is supplied as a photo-etched set, unpainted. A base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
