This etched upgrade set from the manufacturer Rye Field Model brings fine metal side armor skirts (Schürzen) and their mounts for a model of the German King Tiger (Tiger II) heavy tank in 1:35 scale. The thin etched sheet replaces the thicker plastic skirts and looks truer to scale; the set makes it possible to render the skirts complete as well as partly damaged or missing, which builders of dioramas and of battle-worn vehicles will appreciate. It is an accessory, not a model of the tank.
The King Tiger, in German Königstiger (Tiger II), was a German heavy tank of the end of the Second World War with massive armor and a gun of 8.8 cm caliber. The hanging side armor skirts protected the running gear and the upper part of the tracks; in the field they were often missing, bent or torn off, so rendering them faithfully raises the realism of a model markedly.
Separate the etched skirts and shape them exactly, making the bends over the edge of a ruler; sagging and damage can be suggested realistically. Glue the mounts and the skirts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Apply a primer before painting and treat the surfaces with a wash and pigments for mud and dust effects.
This is an accessory etched set, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
