This kit in 1:350 scale represents the British nuclear attack submarine HMS Conqueror. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The exact contents of the box, the part count and the hull version (full hull or waterline) are not stated here, so check the contents once you open the box.
HMS Conqueror belonged to the British Churchill class, that is to the nuclear attack submarines of the Royal Navy commissioned at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. Nuclear power gave them practically unlimited range and the ability to stay submerged for a long time without surfacing. The hull had a teardrop shape optimized for speed under water, with a single propeller, a fin and retractable masts for sensors and periscopes. Boats of this class served for reconnaissance, surveillance and patrol duty and were withdrawn at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. In 1:350 scale a model of the submarine comes out as a fairly long vessel with a simple silhouette, where the cleanliness of the surface is what counts.
The hull is a large smooth area on which every flaw shows - so fill the joints of the hull halves carefully and wet-sand them with fine paper. Apply one thin coat of base color, sand it back and only then spray the top shade. A dark hull comes alive with a gentle emphasis of the hatches, seams and openings; do not overdo the weathering on a submarine, as heavy dusting looks unconvincing. Glue the small masts and the fin planes right at the end so that they do not break off. The model will not hold its position without support - allow for a stand or for setting it into a water surface cast in resin.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
