Kit of the American submarine USS Growler SSG-577 in 1:350 scale from Mikromir - a model of a guided missile carrier of the 1950s.
Responsibility details are not available.
A submarine kit in 1:350 scale from Mikromir. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted, so it is a model to be glued together, not a finished replica. The subject is USS Growler, an American diesel-electric submarine with the hull number SSG-577. The detailed breakdown of the box, the part count and any resin or photo-etched extras are listed on the packaging.
USS Growler was one of the American submarines adapted to carry guided missiles. The characteristic feature of this design are the hangars built into the forward part of the hull and the superstructure, from which the missiles were launched on the surface - which is why the boat has an unusually bulky bow and a busy silhouette that sets her apart from the conventional attack submarines of the same period. The boat entered service in the 1950s and is preserved today as a museum exhibit.
Glue the hull first and pay attention to the longitudinal seam - on a submarine it runs the whole length of the model and after painting it shows mercilessly. Fill it, sand it and keep checking with an overspray of primer. Dry-fit the busy bow and the hangars to see how the parts go together, and only then glue them permanently. Add small parts such as the periscopes and the antennas right at the end. Paint with an airbrush in thin coats and separate the dark topside from the different underwater shade with a soft rather than a hard transition. The weathering stays believable if it keeps to the drainage streaks and salt maps rather than to heavy rust.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
