Injection-molded plastic kit of the CAC CA-19 Boomerang in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Special Hobby. The boxing is aimed at the last production version, the CA-19, that is at the tactical reconnaissance Boomerang. The manufacturer gives a reworked mold, a canopy that can be built open or closed and decals for four Australian machines.
The Boomerang was the only fighter designed and built in Australia during the Second World War. It arose from a rapid conversion of the Wirraway trainer, it was powered by a two-row radial Twin Wasp and its strongest point was agility close to the ground, not speed at altitude. The CA-19 version closed the production run: it received a camera behind the cockpit and served mainly for tactical reconnaissance and for marking targets with smoke rockets for the heavier strike fighters. It was precisely for this work over the jungle of New Guinea and Bougainville that the crews earned the nickname this box carries.
Finish the cockpit and the inside of the engine cowling before you glue the fuselage halves together. The short, stubby cowling of the radial engine deserves a cleanly aligned exhaust collector ring. Australian camouflages have sharp but irregular transitions, so it pays to mask with rolls of modeling putty or to spray freehand at a short distance and low pressure.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
