An injection-molded plastic kit of the American fighter North American P-51D Mustang in 1:48 scale from ICM. It is the best-known bubble-canopy version of the Mustang with its all-round view from the cockpit. This edition additionally contains a set of figures of USAAF pilots and ground personnel. The kit offers finely engraved detail, a well-worked cockpit and underwing stores in the form of drop tanks and bombs.
The P-51D is the most-built and best-known version of the Mustang. You recognize it by its one-piece bubble canopy with an excellent all-round view and by the cut-down rear fuselage behind the cockpit; later machines also received a dorsal fin fillet for better stability. Thanks to its long range it escorted bombers as far as Berlin and became a symbol of the American fighter force in the closing stage of the war. The enclosed figures fill in life on a frontline airfield.
Use thin cement for plastic and build in subassemblies. Finish and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage. On polished metal machines, metalizer paints over a smooth, polished base work well. The figures come out best painted in layers with fine highlighting. Apply primer and lay the colors on with an airbrush, and treat the glazing with masks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
