Injection-molded plastic kit of the American amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) of the Wasp class, in 1:700 scale from the Chinese brand Hobby Boss. The upper and the lower part of the hull are molded separately, so the model can be built as a full-hull version as well as a waterline one. A display stand is in the package. The model is meant to be glued and painted.
The Bonhomme Richard was the sixth unit of the Wasp class and entered service in 1998. An amphibious assault ship puts Marine Corps units ashore with helicopters, landing craft and amphibious vehicles, and as required it can also take on the role of a light aircraft carrier. Her air group was made up of short-takeoff and vertical-landing strike aircraft, attack and transport helicopters and tiltrotors. In July 2020 a fire lasting several days destroyed the ship in San Diego and damaged most of her decks, and the Navy therefore struck her off in 2021 and sold her for scrap.
If you want the model as a waterline version, reckon with having to make the cover plate under the upper part of the hull yourself. Spray the flight deck separately and handle the markings on it with decals rather than with a brush. Glue the superstructures and the radars on only after the hull has been sprayed, so that they do not get dusty. Light shading across the surfaces and a dark wash in the recesses will liven up a single-color gray hull. Dose the rust and the water stains carefully; American ships in active service tended to be in good condition.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
