About product

The Pak 36(r) anti-tank gun in 1:72 scale from Military Wheels

A plastic kit of the German 7.62 cm Pak 36(r) anti-tank gun in 1:72 scale. Military Wheels is a Ukrainian brand devoted to Soviet and German equipment of the Second World War in small scales. The set builds the gun itself with its carriage and holds two wheel variants. Shells and ammunition boxes are not in the package.

The real subject

The basis was the Soviet 76.2 mm divisional gun model 1936, known as the F-22, which the Wehrmacht captured in large numbers in 1941. The Germans first took it into service as a field gun, but from the end of 1941 they rebored the barrel for stronger German ammunition and the modified weapon was designated 7.62 cm Pak 36(r). An improvisation became one of the most effective anti-tank guns of its day, because it could deal with the armor of Soviet medium and heavy tanks at ranges that the German light guns of the time could not reach. The same weapon was also mounted in self-propelled carriages on the chassis of light and captured tanks.

Building and painting tips

A gun in 1:72 has small parts, so cut them off with a sharp scalpel and glue them with liquid cement for plastic applied in drops. Dry-fit the shield and the carriage first so that the wheels stand straight and the barrel points level. A dark wash in the rivets and seams sits nicely on a base coat of primer; dust and mud on the wheels and the underside of the carriage will settle the gun into the terrain.

Who the model is for

  • Modelers of German and Soviet equipment in 1:72
  • Adding to a diorama or a vignette with a crew and a tractor
  • Collectors of Second World War artillery
  • Modelers who already have practice with small parts

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. The set builds the gun with its carriage and holds two wheel variants; shells and ammunition boxes are not in it. Figures and ammunition can be added separately.

They are two different weapons. The 3.7 cm Pak 36 was a German light anti-tank gun, while the 7.62 cm Pak 36(r) is a rebuilt captured Soviet divisional gun of 76.2 mm caliber. The letter r in the designation points to the Russian origin of the barrel.

A gun in 1:72 has small parts and thin sections of carriage, so it is better suited to modelers with some practice. Anyone who has already built a model of equipment in this scale will have no trouble with it.
