A conversion set in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker CMK turns the nose of a model of the North American B-25 Mitchell bomber into the solid, unglazed version armed with a heavy 75 mm cannon. It is not an aircraft kit but a resin accessory that turns the ordinary glazed variant into a B-25G attack machine. A conversion of this kind tends to be more demanding than simply replacing a part, because it means cutting into a finished section of the fuselage.
The B-25 Mitchell was a twin-engined medium bomber that became one of the most widespread machines in its class. The B-25G version was an attack conversion with a solid nose into which a 75 mm cannon was built, complemented by machine guns. The combination of a heavy barrel and forward firepower was intended above all for low-level attacks against shipping and ground targets. Firing a weapon that powerful made demands on the airframe and on the crew, and the concept therefore developed further into later attack versions.
Before cutting, mark the dividing line on the fuselage in pencil and work in small steps, ideally with a cutting disc or a fine saw. Level the face on abrasive paper laid on glass so that the joint is flat. Wash the resin castings, cut off the casting blocks and glue the joint with cyanoacrylate glue, filling gaps with putty or thicker cyanoacrylate with filler. Drill the muzzle out carefully and blacken it; that markedly lifts the impression of the whole nose.
The conversion set is supplied unpainted and without a base kit. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
