An injection-molded plastic kit of the Brewster B-239 Buffalo fighter in 1:72 scale. The box offers it as an aircraft of Finnish fighter aces, that is with decal options of the Finnish Air Force. In scope it is a small and quickly built model.
The Brewster B-239 was the export version of the American F2A carrier fighter, stripped of the equipment for carrier operations. With the US Navy the type disappointed in the war in the Pacific, but in Finland it wrote a completely different story: several dozen aircraft delivered in 1940 became the main weapon of the Finnish fighter flights, and the Finns achieved a remarkable ratio of victories to their own losses with them. The most successful Finnish pilots, Ilmari Juutilainen and Hans Wind, also started on the Buffalo. The Finns kept the type in the line until they received more modern machines, and the stocky silhouette with the radial engine became one of the symbols of their air force.
The Buffalo has a short, stocky fuselage, so if the radial engine and its cowling sit exactly in line, the model is convincing at once; check that dry before gluing. Paint the cockpit before the fuselage is closed and mask the canopy. The Finnish scheme is broken up, so it pays to mask with masking fluid and to spray starting from the lightest color; lay the yellow fuselage band and the Finnish national insignia over an intermediate gloss clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
