A decal sheet in 1:72 scale with the markings of particular machines, not with technical stencils. It is not a kit, but decals for a model you buy separately. The sheet covers Spitfires of all three American volunteer squadrons of the RAF, that is, 71, 121 and 133 Squadrons. The instructions are valuable for the modeler: for every option they also give airframe details such as the type of propeller, the exhausts and the windscreen. One machine is built from the sheet, and the remaining options stay in reserve.
The Eagle Squadrons were three squadrons of RAF Fighter Command in which Americans flew who had gone to Britain as volunteers even before the United States entered the war; many reached Europe through Canada, because their own country was neutral at the time. From 1941 they flew Spitfires of the Mk.V version over England and over the Channel. In September 1942 all three squadrons transferred to the US Army Air Forces and became the core of the 4th Fighter Group, which at first went on flying Spitfires and only later re-equipped with American machines.
In 1:72 scale the codes and the personal artwork are small, so prepare a smooth glossy base and work with tweezers. Cut the motifs out one at a time; a few seconds in warm water is enough, and then slide the decal off the paper onto a wet surface while it can still be moved. Press the water out from the center toward the edges. A diluted softener will seat the decal into the engraved lines. At the end give it a coat matching the sheen of the real machine.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
