F-8E Crusader, French naval aviation, 12F No35, 1999 is a finished die-cast collector model in 1:72 scale from Century Wings. A limited edition of 1500 pieces.
Responsibility details are not available.
A finished model from the Wings of Heroes line, not a kit. Mostly metal alloy with plastic parts, and tampo-printed markings that will not fade and will not peel off the way decals do. The manufacturer limited the edition to 1500 pieces.
The Crusader was a supersonic carrier-based fighter with a tilting wing: the whole wing lifted for takeoff and landing, so the aircraft took up an angle of attack without raising the fuselage and the pilot kept a view of the deck. The version for French naval aviation came about precisely because the French aircraft carriers Clemenceau and Foch were smaller than the American ones; it therefore got enlarged landing flaps and modifications that lowered the approach speed.
The French machines stayed in service long after the type was retired in America. Flotilla 12F flew them for the last time in 1999: in the spring over Kosovo from the deck of the Foch, at the end of October it made the last deck landing, and in December 1999 the unit was disbanded. With that the Crusader ended its career, and after a break 12F returned in 2001 already with the Rafale M type.
This is a finished item, not a kit. Check the version, the state of assembly, the painting and the extent of the package on the box.
