F-8E Crusader, VF-211 Fighting Checkmates NP101, 1967 is a finished die-cast collector model in 1:72 scale from Century Wings, rendered with the takeoff flaps lowered.

A finished model from the Wings of Heroes line, not a kit. Mostly metal alloy with plastic parts, and tampo-printed markings that will not fade and will not peel off the way decals do. The manufacturer released it as a limited edition in the version with the flaps lowered, that is at the moment of takeoff or of the approach to the deck.
The F-8 Crusader was a supersonic single-seat carrier-based fighter that differed from the others in the solution of its wing: the whole lifting surface tilted upward for takeoff and landing, so the aircraft took up an angle of attack without raising the fuselage, and the pilot kept a view forward on the approach to the deck. The armament consisted of four 20 mm cannons, and the Crusader relied on them even at a time when other fighters were switching to guided missiles alone, which is why the name the Last of the Gunfighters stayed with it. The F-8E version had a stronger radar and could carry bombs as well as missiles for ground targets.
The model carries the number 101 and the NP code of carrier air wing CVW-21 from the 1967 deployment of the VF-211 Fighting Checkmates squadron, when the squadron flew from the deck of the USS Bon Homme Richard and scored aerial victories over North Vietnamese MiGs. Watch out for the sister item: from the same squadron and the same year there is also machine NP00 in the standard version, without the flaps lowered. They are two different items, so compare the number on the fuselage and the position of the flaps against the photograph you want to have in your display case before buying.
