A short-run plastic kit of the two-seat Heinkel He 46 reconnaissance aircraft, which the Czech brand RS Models lists under number 94038. The eBu designation belongs to the export He 46C-1 finish intended for Bulgaria, as the manufacturer gives it. In the literature the Bulgarian aircraft are listed as the He 46C-2, and their recognition feature was a NACA-type engine cowling. With short-run kits the plastic tends to be supplemented with photo-etch and resin; check the extent of the package and the markings on the box.
The He 46 first flew at the end of 1931 and was originally built as a biplane with a small lower wing. That was soon removed, the lifting surface was enlarged and the aircraft became a high-wing monoplane with the wing above the fuselage, braced by struts. It served for close reconnaissance and for cooperation with ground troops, and carried a camera, light bombs and an observer's movable machine gun. It was driven by an air-cooled nine-cylinder Bramo radial engine. About five hundred aircraft were built. From 1938 the Henschel Hs 126 replaced them with frontline units and by 1940 the aircraft had disappeared from the front line; in 1943 they came back from training units for night harassment flights over the Eastern Front. Besides Germany they were used by Bulgaria, Hungary and the Spanish Nationalists.
A short-run kit needs more dry work: try the seating of the wing, the struts and the landing gear without glue first. Wash the resin and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue, and bend the photo-etch over a steel edge. Paint the struts before assembly; once the parts are in place the brush will not reach them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
