An injection-molded plastic kit of the Heinkel He 111Z Zwilling in 1:72 scale. The box designates it as the Z-2 version, that is the long-range bomber. It is a sizeable model with a pair of fuselages and five engines; because of the span, make room for it in your display case before you build it.
The He 111Z was created by joining two fuselages of the He 111H bomber with a new wing center section, into which the Germans built a fifth Jumo 211 engine. The reason was simple: the large Me 321 Gigant cargo glider had nothing to tow it, and towing behind three smaller aircraft was risky. The twin machine was given the nickname Zwilling, meaning twin, and it was built in series precisely as the Z-1 tug. The literature describes the Z-2 version as a planned long-range bomber that remained a project and was not built in series. That is worth knowing with this boxing: the subject stands on the border between a real aircraft and an unrealized intention.
The wing center section is the key: both fuselages have to stand in one plane, so build the model on a flat surface and check the dihedral before the cement hardens. Mask the glazed sections of the noses and glue them with glue for clear parts, which does not fog. The broken-up German camouflage scheme is best sprayed with an airbrush, and the decals should then be laid over an intermediate gloss clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
