A plastic kit of the Soviet ZiS-10 tractor unit together with a semi-trailer, in 1:72 scale. The combination is an unusual subject: Soviet civilian and supply trucks turn up only rarely in a small scale, and a tractor with a semi-trailer also gives the finished model a striking length.
The ZiS-10 was derived from the three-ton ZiS-5 truck, one of the most widespread Soviet vehicles of the 1930s. The designers shortened its frame and added a fifth wheel, and an ordinary flatbed truck thus became a tractor for semi-trailers; the vehicle kept most of its assemblies and its cab from the base type. It was built in small runs until 1941, when the program of derived versions was stopped so that the works could concentrate on the ZiS-5 itself. The combinations ran in industry and in supply work, because a semi-trailer carried a bulky load without the need to build a larger truck.
Paint the cab and the frame separately before you join them, because a brush will not reach into the cab after assembly. Soviet utility vehicles were not glossy and new, so a matte varnish, a worn edge on the fenders and dust on the wheels and the underside pay off. The wooden elements of the semi-trailer bed can be rendered with a light base and a brown wash. Paint the tarpaulin, if you add one, in a separate shade so that it stands apart from the painted sheet metal.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
