Modeling nippers with an angled head, intended for separating plastic parts from the sprue. The manufacturer gives the size of the tool as 130x60 millimeters. The angle is what matters here: the head is turned relative to the handles, so you can reach a gate even where straight nippers would hit a neighboring part.
They suit anyone who has been snapping parts off or cutting them away with a knife. A snapped part almost always carries away a white stress mark, and a knife slips sooner than anyone would like. Nippers cut the gate cleanly and the remnant only has to be sanded over. The best procedure is to leave a small stub on the part and only then cut it flush, because a cut right at the part can dent the surface.
Nippers last considerably longer when they are used only for what they are meant for. Hard plastic, cast resin and above all steel wire will quickly blunt or chip the edge. After work it is enough to clean the plastic residue off the head and leave the nippers closed, so that the edges rest on nothing. An occasional drop of oil on the joint will extend their life further still.
The tool has sharp edges, so keep it out of the reach of children and do not use it on steel wire or on photo-etched parts, which are harder than plastic and will damage the edge.
