About product

Carbon fiber sanding pads 2 mm (Fine Art)

Sanding pads with a carbon fiber core two millimeters thick from the brand Fine Art. The carbon insert is rigid and at the same time light, so the pad does not flex under pressure and sands genuinely flat. That is the difference against a sanding sponge or paper held in the hand, which follow the shape of a finger and round the edges off. These are not modeling parts or a kit but a tool for preparing a surface.

Use

  • leveling glued seams on a fuselage, a hull or a car body
  • sanding puttied seams flat without rounding the edges off
  • removing the remains of casting blocks and sprue gates
  • preparing a surface before the primer goes on
  • working wet, when the abrasive clogs less

How to work with the tool

Sanding should be done in a stroke and with light pressure: a rigid pad cuts by itself, so pressure only digs the abrasive in and deepens the flaw. Work from a coarser abrasive to a finer one and rinse the surface between steps, so that the coarser grit is not dragged into the finer step. Check the surface against the light at a shallow angle, because scratches only show in the reflection. On the curved parts of a fuselage or a car body, lay the pad at an angle across the curve, not straight across it, or you will create a flat where there should be an arc.

Who the tool is for

The tool suits modelers who fill and sand and want control over keeping a surface flat and an edge sharp. A thickness of two millimeters is a compromise between rigidity and being able to reach into shallow transitions.

Do not inhale the sanding dust: work with extraction, with a respirator, or sand wet. Rinse the surface after sanding and let it dry, or the remains of dust will be dragged into the primer.

FAQ

It is not; it is a modeling tool for preparing a surface.

It is rigid and light, so the pad does not flex under pressure and sands flat.

Yes, wet sanding clogs the abrasive less and keeps the dust down.
