Acrylic Color Fang White - an acrylic paint for figures

Fang White belongs to the Acrylic Color line of the Spanish brand Green Stuff World, which concentrates on painting fantasy figures and models for tabletop games. The name of the line speaks plainly: it is an acrylic, that is a water-based paint. It thins with clean water or with an acrylic thinner, the brushes are washed out of it with water straight after the work, and once dry it holds as a flexible film. It does not mix with lacquers or with oil paints.

White as the last step, not as a base

The basic method of painting a figure has three steps: a base coat, shadow into the hollows and a highlight on the edges. White pays off most in that third one. It is applied with a thin, well blotted tip of the brush along the edges of armor, along the edge of a blade, along the breaks of cloth and along the ridges of musculature, where the most light would fall on a real object. The narrower the mark, the sharper the impression of shape. When white is spread over a whole area instead, the figure flattens and at arm's length, the distance from which a model on a gaming table is usually seen, it stops being readable.

Other uses

• Lightening other shades: mixed into a base color it gives a natural intermediate step for building highlights up in layers.
• Bony and toothed elements, skulls, horns, small details of gear.
• Signs, stripes and symbols on shields and banners, where the greatest contrast is needed.
• A base under saturated shades that come out worse over a dark base on their own.

Who the paint is for

For players who paint a whole army and need a repeatable method, and for collectors of individual figures. The paint can be applied with a brush and with an airbrush; try the consistency for spraying on a spare part, because the thinning needed differs according to the nozzle and the pressure.
