Redwood Brown is named after the redwood, whose bark and cut timber alike have a pronounced red-brown color. The shade profits from that twice. On wooden parts it gives beams, planks and furniture a warm tone that looks livelier than a neutral brown, and on metal it serves as the first stage of rust, that is as a base under the orange and ocher patches of the youngest corrosion.
On brick buildings it works as the base coat for a whole wall. It is applied over the whole area, the joints are pulled together with a gray shade and the individual bricks are then set apart with small strokes toward orange, toward yellow and toward gray. It is exactly the differences between neighboring bricks that make a wall believable; a uniform area always looks printed.
The paint thins with water, acrylic thinner prepares it for an airbrush and for ordinary work with a brush it gets by on its own. It dries matte, so pigments and oil colors follow on it, with which rust and dirt are brought to their final form.
Shake the bottle before work. Red and brown pigments belong to the heavier ones and after standing for a longer time they settle at the bottom, but the ball inside returns them into the whole volume within a few seconds.
A note on the tuning of the whole remains. Red browns quickly overpower their surroundings, so it is suitable to think over how many areas can carry them. On one scene two or three places are usually enough, otherwise the model starts to look single-colored.
