Acrylic Color Vanilla Drop - a cream acrylic for figures

Vanilla Drop is a paint from the Acrylic Color line of the brand Green Stuff World, that is a water-based acrylic intended for fantasy figures and models for a gaming table. It thins with water or with an acrylic thinner, it cleans with water and it does not mix with lacquers or oils. The shade belongs to the cream, light yellow-white group, between a subdued bone and pure white.

The intermediate step that holds the transitions together

The basic method of painting a figure often sticks at the last step: between the base coat and the white highlight the jump is too great and the transition looks like a stripe stuck on. A cream shade fills that jump. The method is simple: over the base coat apply Vanilla Drop on the upper surfaces and the broader edges, let it dry, and only then sharpen the narrowest edge with white. Three readable levels come out instead of two and the figure gains a volume that holds up even when seen at arm's length.

Where the shade works

• Lightening sandy, ocher and brown areas without turning them white.
• Linen shirts, bandages, canvas sacks and scrolls, where pure white would look out of place.
• Bone, antlers and teeth as a lighter layer over an earthy base.
• Hair of light shades, where it is mixed into a graded series of highlights.
• Mixing into other colors as a gentler substitute for white, because it does not reduce the saturation as much.
