Airbrush DH-2: a Sparmax airbrush with a 0.25 mm nozzle

A modeling airbrush from the Sparmax brand in the DH-2 form. It is neither a kit nor an accessory for a model but a tool for applying paint. The name gives the nozzle size as 0.25 mm, which is the figure airbrushes are most often chosen by.

What the nozzle size means

The diameter of the nozzle decides how fine a line the airbrush can manage and how large an area it will cover. A smaller nozzle of around a quarter of a millimeter aims at detail work: narrow lines, fine transitions, small camouflage schemes, the faces of figures and cockpit detail. In return, expect the paint to need preparing more carefully than with coarser nozzles and every deposit to show up sooner. Larger nozzles, by contrast, suit large continuous areas better.

Operation and maintenance

• Flush the airbrush after every session; dried paint is the most common cause of trouble.
• Pull the needle out and slide it in slowly and without force, so that the tip is not damaged against the nozzle.
• Do not use metal tools for cleaning, as they would scratch the inner surfaces.
• Needles, nozzles and caps for these airbrushes are commonly bought as spare parts according to the particular model.
• Always try the pressure and the consistency of the paint on a scrap surface first.
