About product

The middle fine dimension, seven tenths

The seventh tenth is the last grade that still belongs to the group of finest diameters. This tends to be the boundary beyond which you can make out the shape of the head without a magnifier. On a motorcycle this dimension corresponds to the mounting of radiators, sheet-metal chain covers or cable brackets.

Tools and preparation

  • A seven tenths of a millimeter bit and a pin of the same thickness to test the depth of the hole.
  • Straight-tipped tweezers. At this diameter a curved tip slides off the collar.
  • Thin cyanoacrylate glue and an accelerator spray to go with it, so that the bond holds before the part has time to shift.
  • A needle file to take the burr off around the drilled hole.
  • A white surface under your hands; on a dark board a dropped piece is practically unfindable.

What to watch when drilling

Drill square. A slanted hole pulls the head to one side and the collar then seats on only half its circumference, which is immediately visible from the side. Support a thin wall from the inside with a piece of plastic or with putty, otherwise a bulge forms around the bore. Mark the spot beforehand with the point of a needle so the bit does not run off the glossy surface.

Before you reach for the glue, try the part dry and look at the joint from the side and from above. The position can only be corrected until the cyanoacrylate glue has set; after that nothing is left but to break it out and drill a new hole beside it, which shows on a visible surface for good.

What is supplied are the parts themselves, intended for finishing a model. The kit, glue and bits are not included.

FAQ

A slanted bore pulls the head to one side and the collar seats on only part of its circumference. Seen from the side it shows on the model at once.

It shortens the time you have to hold the part. With parts this small that is the difference between one attempt and several.

Yes. A burr left from drilling lifts the collar by tenths of a millimeter and the joint then does not sit on the surface.
