Base Paint - Earth is an acrylic paint from the Woodland line. The name describes both the purpose and the shade: base paint is a base coat and earth is an earthy, brown tone. It is therefore used as the first layer on terrain, on a base or on the baseboard of a diorama, that is where the surface is to be earthy before scatter, grass and vegetation go onto it.
A base coat has two roles on a scene. First, it unifies a surface that usually arises from different materials, so that plaster, wood, polystyrene and filler stop being distinguishable at first glance. Second, it ensures that the places showing through between the scatter and the vegetation will not shine white or gray. An earth shade is the most all-purpose for this, because it disappears under grass and between stones alike.
For builders of dioramas, railroad modelers and players who prepare terrain bases and plinths. It comes into its own anywhere a neutral earth foundation suits under scenic materials.
