Abteilung 502 Beach Sand — modeling pigment

A dry loose modeling pigment from Abteilung 502 in the Beach Sand shade, that is a pale sandy beige. It is a fine weathering powder, not a liquid paint — it is applied dry and serves to weather a model that has already been painted and the elements of a diorama. Beach Sand is a warm, pale yellow-beige tone matching beach and desert sand and pale seaside dust; it is warmer and yellower than the neutral Light Dust. It is supplied in a bottle (usually 20 ml of loose powder).

Use

• Pick the pigment up with a soft brush and rub it in dry on the running gear, the undersides and the surfaces of vehicles in desert or coastal settings, and on sandy diorama surfaces.
• To anchor it permanently, fix it with a pigment fixer or with odorless mineral spirits; after fixing the shade darkens and flattens slightly.
• Layer it with darker earth tones and dusts for a realistic transition from pale sand to dirtied soil.
• Dust the excess loose powder off lightly before fixing, so that you keep the effect under control.
