Paint Forge Bio Toxic Stencils M — a universal masking stencil

Bio Toxic Stencils is a universal stencil, that is a sheet with cut-out motifs through which paint is applied to an already painted surface. It is not a mask cut for a particular kit but a reusable aid that you can set about anything — military hardware, science-fiction figures and the elements of dioramas. The Bio Toxic motif refers to the warning marking for a biological hazard, of the kind that suits drums, containers, tank hatches or the gear of characters.

The letter M in the name marks the smaller of the pair of sheets that Paint Forge offers for the same pattern; the larger sheet carries the letter L in its name. The smaller format holds better on small parts and on figures, where a large sheet gets in the way.

How the stencil is used

• Let the base coat dry out completely — in fresh paint the stencil will leave an imprint.
• Lay the sheet on and hold it; on a broken-up surface low-tack masking tape around the perimeter helps.
• Lead the airbrush perpendicular to the stencil and spray several very thin coats, so that the paint does not seep under the edges of the cutouts.
• With a brush work almost dry and stipple the paint into the cutout, never stroke it.
• Lift the stencil off while the paint is damp and clean it at once — dried paint on the edges of the cutouts spoils the crispness of the motif.
