A finished growth to be laid down, not a raw material to be worked. The tuft consists of fine fibers with tiny flower accents in a saturated dark red shade and is lifted off the backing film in one piece. Dark red is the most characterful shade in the range: it does not read as a spring pastel but as a mature summer and late-summer growth, of the kind formed by sorrel, flowering clover or a weed-filled field margin just before the end of the season. For dioramas with hardware this is interesting precisely because a muted red does not clash with olive and dusty gray while at the same time not killing the color of the scene.
It pays to treat blossom tufts as a seasoning rather than as a base. The best proportion is for the basic area to be handled with ordinary greenery or grass and for the blossom tufts to make up only a few percent of the surface. It also pays to mix two colors together: a pair of shades side by side looks markedly more natural than a single one, because in a real field margin only one species never flowers. Dark red goes well with yellow and white; with pink and violet, on the contrary, it merges and the difference is lost at normal viewing distance. Choose placements where neither a scythe nor the wheels of hardware reach: at the feet of posts, in ditches, by fences and around the corners of buildings.
Lift the tuft with tweezers by its underside. If the underside does not hold by itself, use a drop of PVA glue or cyanoacrylate gel and let it go tacky briefly before seating. Press the tuft into the terrain, comb the edges out with the tip of the tweezers and scatter fine dust at the foot. You can even the height out with scissors from below, and reduce the density by dividing the tuft into smaller parts. The color of the fibers can be tied in gently with the scene using a very thinned wash applied from above, but carefully, as the flower accents are tiny and easily overwhelmed.
