BLUE WASH FOR PANZER GREY: enamel wash for panzer gray (AMMO of Mig Jimenez)

BLUE WASH FOR PANZER GREY is a ready-mixed, pre-thinned wash on an enamel (synthetic, solvent-based) base in a bottle of 35 ml. It is not a kit but a modeling chemical product for weathering finished models. It is intended for German panzer gray (Panzergrau) and for dark gray surfaces in general.

Why a blue wash

This is the main reason the product exists. On a dark gray surface an ordinary black wash all but disappears: the difference between dark gray and a black wash is so small that the detail does not come out and the surface is merely dirtied. A bluish tone, by contrast, creates a visible color contrast against the gray: seams, rivets and shadows are deepened optically without the model turning black. The blue cast also reinforces the cold character of panzer gray naturally and acts as a subtle color shift that looks convincing in small scale.

Use

• Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles.
• With a fine brush, apply it deliberately into seams and rivets, around hatches, into the shadows under raised details and along panel edges.
• Let it become tacky for a moment and wipe off the excess with a clean brush moistened in enamel (synthetic) thinner.
• Wipe from top to bottom, in the direction water would run.
• Build the effect up gradually in several thin layers.

Recommended base and who it is for

Apply it over a cured gloss or semi-gloss clear coat, because the excess can only be wiped off cleanly from a smooth surface. Once the weathering is finished, seal the model with a matte varnish. The product will be appreciated by modelers of early Second World War German vehicles and by anyone weathering dark gray surfaces who does not want a black wash to deaden them. Application is easy even for beginners, and mistakes can be wiped off with thinner.

Solvent-based modeling chemical product: flammable. Work in a well-ventilated area, protect your skin and airways, and avoid contact with the eyes. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of fire and open flame.
