A brass I-beam section, that is two parallel flanges joined in the middle by a web. It is exactly this cross-section that gives a beam its stiffness at a low weight, so that even over a longer span the section does not sag the way a plastic rod of the same dimensions does. Brass holds its shape, can be sanded and polished and solders well.
The length of the section is 305 mm, the cross-section 3 x 6 mm, and there is one piece in the package. The section is a semi-finished material, so it replaces no particular part of a model and you cut the individual lengths from it according to your own needs. Compared with the sister section of 1 x 2 mm cross-section, this is a markedly heavier step of the same range, that is a dimension for the more load-bearing parts of a build.
A beam cross-section suits everywhere real structure is meant to be visible on a model: crane runways, gantries, bridge decks, the roof trusses of industrial halls, semi-trailer frames and supports in dioramas. It also comes into its own as a hidden stiffener inside large models or as a skeleton under the terrain of a diorama.
Divide the section with a fine saw for metal and then true the cut up with a file; a file alone will not cut it. Nippers would crush the flanges out of shape, so with a beam a saw is the safer bet. Chamfer the ends so that the parts seat with no gap. You can join with cyanoacrylate glue, and at places under stress rather with two-part epoxy, or else by soft soldering. Before painting, wash the section, degrease it and apply a primer meant for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth brass.
Tools, glue and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
