A package of thirty brass rings of 9 mm from the range of small ship fittings of the Constructo brand. The rings serve as eyes for attaching rigging, as rings on the deck, as part of the anchor gear, as sail hoops or as connecting elements. It is not a ship kit, but individual parts for completing a model. Brass is practical for this purpose: it can be soldered, shaped, painted and patinated, and it does not corrode the way steel does.
The rings in a kit tend to be counted out exactly according to the instructions, so if one piece is lost or the rigging is altered, there are immediately too few. A separate package makes it possible to add missing pieces, to unify the look after a repair or to fit out a build from your own documentation. The use is not limited to ships either — the rings also suit making chains, fitting out a diorama, or serving as small hooks on figures and vehicles.
Degrease the rings before gluing or painting, as a greasy film is left on brass after manufacture. When closing a ring, grip it with two flat pliers so that you push one side toward you and the other away, not by opening it sideways — otherwise it loses its circular shape. The joint can be soldered with soft solder or fixed with super glue. If you want to keep the metal look, just knock the surface back with a fine abrasive and seal it with a clear varnish, or use a burnishing fluid for brass. When painting, do not forget a primer for metal surfaces; without it the paint rubs off.
