BRICK DUST

Abteilung 502 Brick Dust - modeling pigment

A dry loose modeling pigment from Abteilung 502 in the Brick Dust shade, that is a brick red-brown. It is a fine weathering powder, not a liquid paint - it is applied dry and serves for weathering a model that is already painted and diorama elements. Brick Dust is a warm, earthy red tone matching the dust of crushed bricks, terracotta and rubble; it is redder and warmer than the neutral dust and concrete shades. It comes in a bottle (usually 20 ml of loose powder).

Use

• Pick the pigment up with a soft brush and rub it in dry onto ruined masonry, brick rubble, the bases of buildings and areas dusted with brick dust.
• To anchor it permanently, fix it with a pigment fixer or with odorless mineral spirits; once fixed the shade darkens slightly and goes flat.
• Combine it with neutral dust and the gray of concrete for a realistic scene of ruined buildings.
• Dust the surplus loose powder off lightly before fixing, so that you keep the effect under control.
