Candy Ink Amethyst Purple (Green Stuff World)

A transparent acrylic ink from the Candy Ink range in the violet shade of amethyst. It is not an opaque paint: the layer stays transparent and the surface beneath shows through it. The whole effect is built on exactly that, because over a metallic or clear surface it creates a deep gloss tone recalling stained glass or lacquered metal.

What it is and what it is not

Candy Ink has no covering power and will not replace an ordinary paint. Over white plastic it gives only a faint cast, whereas over a silver or chrome layer it creates a rich tone with a metallic sheen. The range is therefore used on bodywork, helmets, gemstones, windows and lights, not for painting a model over whole areas.

Use

• Applied with a brush as well as an airbrush; once thinned it forms a color filter
• It comes out best over a metallic, chrome or clear surface
• The saturation is governed by the number of coats, not by the amount of paint in one coat
• It dries to a gloss; a matte finish has to be added with a final varnish
• Degrease the surface beforehand, as the layer will bead on grease
• On a large area work quickly, as a dried edge shows as a streak

Safety note

Use it in a well-ventilated space and wear a respirator when airbrushing. Avoid contact with the eyes and the skin, keep it out of the reach of children and close the bottle carefully.
