Coarse Sanding Pads - 120 Grit, 4 pieces (AK interactive)

A set of four 120 grit sanding pads from AK interactive. This is not a tool bought once in a lifetime - sanding pads are a consumable; the abrasive clogs and gradually goes blunt. 120 grit is among the coarser ones: it serves for fast removal of material where there is still a lot to level. Unlike abrasive paper, a pad holds its shape, can be bent into a curve and follows the rounded surfaces of fuselages, cowlings and hulls better.

Use

• leveling the remains of sprue gates and the burrs left after a part is clipped off the fret
• the first pass over filled seams and glued joints, before moving on to finer grits
• working larger rounded surfaces, where flat abrasive paper only rubs along the edges
• roughening a glossy surface before a base coat is applied
• work in short strokes and knock the pad out or rinse it as you go so that it does not clog with plastic dust

Who it is for

It suits anyone who builds injection-molded plastic kits and wants joints without a visible groove. After 120 grit the surface always has to be cleaned up with finer grits from the same range, otherwise clear scratches will stay in the plastic and the base coat will only accentuate them. With resin parts proceed more carefully, as the material goes faster than plastic.

Sanding creates fine dust - work in a ventilated space, ideally with respiratory protection, and with resin that goes double. The dimensions of the pads are given on the packaging.
