A cutting mat in A3 format, that is 42 x 29.7 cm. It protects the table top and saves the blade of your scalpel.

A cutting mat is the quietest piece of equipment on a modeling bench and at the same time the one used most often. It sits under the blade when you separate parts, trim film or cut strips of tape, and it protects two things at once: the table top against score marks and the tip of the blade against being dulled on a hard surface. A cut made on a mat is also surer, because the material does not slide on it as much as it does on varnished wood or on glass.
The A3 size is 42 x 29.7 cm, twice an A4 sheet. That is an area which comfortably takes a parts sprue and a ruler, and which still leaves room on an ordinary bench for a jar of thinner and for parts set aside. A smaller format forces you to shift the material in the middle of a cut, and that is exactly the moment when the blade slips.
Cut with a sharp blade and without needless pressure, because a dull blade tears the material rather than cutting it and digs into the mat. Hold the ruler so that your fingers stay behind its edge, and draw the cut away from you. Do not use the mat as a place to rest hot tools or a jar of aggressive thinner. Store it flat, not rolled up, or it will stay wavy. Clean it by wiping with a damp cloth.
A scalpel, spare blades and a ruler are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
