What the set is for

The set carries engines designated D-30KU-154, that is the powerplants associated with the Tupolev Tu-154M airliner. It is prepared for 1:144 scale and serves as a replacement for parts from a kit. On a model of an airliner the engines are one of the few places where fidelity of shape is visible at first glance, so a replacement tells more markedly than with small details under the wing.

The real subject

The Tu-154M is a three-engine jet airliner of Soviet design with all the engines concentrated at the rear of the fuselage. It is precisely the type of powerplant that sets the M version apart from the older forms of the machine, so the set suits building a model in this form. Preparation and gluing

The parts are not of polystyrene, and ordinary cement for plastic models does not work on them. Use super glue, and a two-part adhesive on larger mating surfaces. If the set replaces parts from a kit, cut the original pieces off first and level the surface, so the replacement seats without a gap. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down carefully, so the edges do not disappear. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry, otherwise paint holds badly on the surface. Under metal shades a primer pays off, as it evens out the surface underneath.
