The magazine

Damaged is a modeling magazine focused on the finishing of models. This is issue 07. The series concentrates on what tells a freshly built model apart from a piece that looks as though it really served: dust settled where the rain reaches and where a hand does not, rust seeping from the joints, paint worn off the edges and the scuffing from boots and gloves in the places where the crew climbed aboard.

What you take away from the magazine

In finishing it is the order of the steps and the right measure that decide, not one miracle material. The magazine is therefore built on pictures: at each stage you can see the state before and after the work, so the reader can measure his own work against it and judge where to stop. The make-up of the articles in this issue is given in its contents.

Finishing is made up of several separate crafts that are layered one on another on a model:

• settled dust and layers picked up in service
• rust and corrosion in the joints and around the rivets
• chipping and flaked paint on the edges
• leaking oils and fuel
• fading and uneven aging of the paint

Who it is for

For modelers who want to move the final look of a model forward, and for diorama builders where the state of the vehicles has to match the setting and the season of the scene. It also serves anyone starting out with finishing who is looking for a clearly presented example.
