Dark Green - 2/pkg

The tallest pair of dark green crowns

Deep dark green belongs to old broadleaf trees with dense foliage of many seasons. Practically no light passes through a crown like that, and that is just what gives a scene its depth: a dark mass at the back pushes the background away and the lighter trees in front of it step forward.

Dimensions

Both pieces measure 15.2 to 17.7 cm, so six to seven inches, and they are the tallest trees in the whole of this range. On a layout at 1:87 they match a tree roughly thirteen to fifteen meters high. The package holds two pieces, which is the usual count at this height, because trees like these are not planted in crowds.

Where a tree like this belongs

It works most strongly on its own: a tree in the middle of a pasture, by a farmstead, on a village green or above a halt. The second good position is the back plane, where a tall dark silhouette closes off the scene and hides the transition to the background. In the middle of a diorama with low buildings it fits less well, because it has outgrown them.

Working with the pair

When both pieces are stood side by side, it is good to turn them so that the silhouettes do not overlap, and to set one of them slightly forward. A pair in line looks like a doubled model, whereas an offset pair looks like a group. Planting is handled by the pin under the trunk, and the base can be taken off or left on if the tree is not to be fixed permanently.

A pair in leaf is supplied, without terrain and without fixing materials.

Before planting it is worth checking whether the trunk stands upright. On tall pieces every lean shows at first glance, and it is straightened by bending the pin carefully.
