About product

Dry Brush - Ultramarine Touch 30 ml (Green Stuff World)

This is an acrylic modeling paint by the Spanish brand Green Stuff World, specifically from the range intended for the dry brushing technique. The shade carries the trade name Ultramarine Touch and the volume given in the name is 30 ml. It is neither a wash nor a filter: the paint is applied with an almost dry brush and is handled differently from an ordinary opaque paint.

What dry brushing does

The brush is dipped into the paint and the vast majority is wiped off on a paper towel. The remaining minimum of pigment is then transferred with light strokes onto the raised places only: edges, rivets, folds of cloth, the texture of stone or bark. An optical emphasis of the relief arises that gives the model depth and separates the individual surfaces legibly from one another. On figures it is the fastest way to keep the detail from disappearing at half a meter.

Use

  • Bringing out edges and relief on figures, busts and wargaming models.
  • Suggesting texture on rocks, wood, bricks and the bases of dioramas.
  • Quickly lightening larger areas without laborious layering of glazes.
  • Work on a darker base coat, against which the shade stands out.

What to watch out for

Stir the paint thoroughly before use, because the pigment settles to the bottom. Choose shorter, harder bristles, ideally an older brush reserved for this technique alone, because dry brushing wears the bristles quickly and the brush is then no longer suitable for fine glazing. Build the pressure up gradually: you can easily add another layer, while an excess is considerably harder to remove.

Who the paint is for

For figure modelers, collectors of wargaming armies and diorama builders who want to bring detail out quickly and legibly. The technique makes few demands on experience, so it also suits those who are only just trying dry brushing.

Keep the paint out of the reach of children, ventilate while working and close the container carefully after use.

FAQ

The brush is only dipped into the paint and almost all of it is wiped off on a towel. Only a minimum of pigment is then transferred to the model, and exclusively onto the raised places. The result is an optical emphasis of the relief, not a continuous opaque coat.

It comes out best on a darker base coat against which the lighter strokes contrast. The surface should be dry and rather matte, as the technique works less well on a glossy one.

Shorter, harder bristles, ideally an older brush reserved for this purpose alone. Dry brushing wears the bristles quickly, so the brush is no longer suitable for fine glazing.

The particular thinner and the drying time are not stated here.
