The EA-18G Growler is a carrier electronic warfare aircraft derived from the two-seat version of the Super Hornet. In the two-man crew an officer who operates the jamming equipment sits beside the pilot. The task of the machine is not to shoot an opponent down but to blind him: to suppress his radars and communications and thereby make the airspace passable for the other aircraft. Its recognition mark is the pods hung under the wing, which make the Growler a different machine from an ordinary fighter at first glance.
The model does not keep to a scale. The fuselage is drawn into a short chubby shape, the cockpit on the contrary enlarged, and yet the aircraft stays recognizable, because it holds on to the typical features of the real subject. This exaggeration is the main charm of the whole category of shortened models: it fits on a shelf among books, it is built in an evening and beside seriously conceived models it comes across as a witty lightening of the mood.
The execution professes allegiance to Electronic Attack Squadron 141 with the nickname Shadowhawks. The procedure of the build, the shades and the placement of the markings are to be found in the instructions enclosed, as on shortened models the elements are applied to differently curved surfaces than on an exact reduction. The engraved division of the surface will be underlined by a light wash into the hollows, while heavy wear would on the contrary not suit the chubby shape.
For modelers who like carrier aircraft and want something with exaggeration to go with them, and for beginners for whom a large kit takes too much time. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
