A set of photo-etched parts for the F/A-18C aircraft model in 1:72 scale, designated for the Academy kit. An accessory for modelers who are not satisfied with the basic level of detail.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F/A-18C belongs to the single-seat machines of the Hornet family, carrier aircraft meant to fight both airborne and ground targets. On the model this shows above all on the pylons and on the ordnance, which can be varied according to the chosen appearance of the machine. The airframe carries the marks of carrier service: strengthened landing gear, an arrestor hook under the rear end and folding wingtips, thanks to which the aircraft takes up less room in the hangar.
Plastic has its limits with small shapes. Where the real thing is genuinely thin, for example on small covers, grilles or straps, the plastic part comes out many times thicker in 1:72 scale than it should be. Photo-etched metal sheet a few tenths of a millimeter thick evens that difference out. The set is shaped for the Academy kit according to its designation, so with kits from other manufacturers expect some adjustment. What exactly the set contains is shown by the manufacturer's instructions.
Work over a tray with raised edges, otherwise a small part will jump away and you will not find it again. Cut the tabs with a sharp blade, follow the scored lines when bending and press the bend home with a straight edge. The parts are glued with a tiny amount of cyanoacrylate. Wash and degrease the metal first, then apply primer and only then the paint.
For modelers of contemporary carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale who already have experience with small metal parts or want to gain it. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
